The Annual Clergy Conference 2017 was held on 21-24, 2017 at Christian Education Center, Charalkunnu. It was a special time of the Clergy and Bishops of the Mar Thoma Church for re-thinking and rearticulating our faith and witness.
During the inaugural session of the conference, Most Rev Dr. Joseph Mar Thoma Metropolitan, in the inaugural address, exhorted the role of Priests to enliven the Christic Presence in this world so as to make transformations in the society. Rt. Rev. Dr. Thomas Mar Theethos Episcopa, the president of Annual Clergy Conference 2017, wished that this conference be a time to redefine the ministry contextually and to revitalize the fellowship. Rt.Rev. Dr. Oommen George, the Bishop of Kollam Kottarakara Diocese of the CSI Church gave felicitations to the meeting. Sabha Secretary. Rev. K.G.Joseph welcomed the Clergy to the Conference.
The main Theme of the conference was Church as an agent of Change: Redefining Ministry contextually and the theme was well presented by the newly ordained Clergy of the Church. The main Talk led Rev. Jacob Mathew (Pullad) explained in detail the relevance of the ministry in the present day context. Achen also portrayed the Reformation in Malankara Church and its effect in the understanding the ecclesiology. The Bible study taken by Rev. Dr. V.S.Varughese based on the Book of Daniel reflected Church an Agent of Change or Embodiment of Change. In the second day the Bible study was conducted on diocese basis led by different Achens. Rev. Fr. Bobby Jose Kattikad led the evening meditations and devotion.
Mr. N.Prasanth IAS, Higher Education Director, gave a talk on the topic Growing Communalism-A threat to the Socio-Political fabric of India: an appraisal. Sheethal Shyam led a class on the Voices from the Transgenders: Queries and Challenges.
The Clergy conference extended their greetings and welcomed the newly ordained Clergy to the conference.
The conference also expressed its condolences to the bereaved family members of the Clergy who are taken to Eternal Rest during the past year and remembered their services to the Church.
The conference also honoured the Clergy who are retired from the Active service this year and wished their efforts may be more blessing to the community and the Church.
The Conference also conducted a Birth Centenary Celebration to felicitate the Most Rev. Dr. Philipose Mar Chrysostom Mar Thoma Valiya Metropolitan.
The Annual General Body of the Clergy Conference and Clergy & Family Welfare Fund was also held.
Worship for various sessions was led by Chennai-Bangalore, Kunnamkulam – Malabar, Kottayam Kochi and Mumbai Dioceses.
On the final day, the Holy Communion was celebrated by Rt.Rev. Thomas Mar Timotheos Episcopa and the confence came to an end by the concluding remarks and Benediction by the Mar Thoma Metropolitan.
Rev. Jose C.Joseph Mathew and Rev. Biju K. George gave leadership as the Conference Convener and Treasurer respectively. Rev. Melvin Philip Mathew and Rev. Kiran Samuel severed as the Conference Chaplains. Singing sessions of the conference was led by Rev. Ashish Thomas George, Rev. Manoj Mathews, Rev. Alex C.Samuel and Rev. Mathews George.
