The Malankara Mar Thoma Syrian Church is deeply mourning as the Valiya Metropolitan His Grace the Most Rev. Dr. Philipose Mar Chrysostom Mar Thoma Valiya Metropolitan is taken to eternal rest at 01:15 AM on 05.05.2021 at the Fellowship Mission Hospital, Kumbanad, Kerala.
His Grace was a champion of human rights, progressive thought and a staunch supporter of the marginalized. He always could interpret social challenges in such a way that it was always the last word. The nation honored him with Padma Bhushan recognizing his outstanding contribution. The Mar Thoma Church will ever remember with gratitude to God the outstanding leadership of His Grace during the five decades he was at the helm of affairs as a bishop and then as the Metropolitan. Later as Valia Metropolitan he was able to give pioneering leadership to the secular life traveling far and wide.
Posterity can never ignore his outstanding contribution.
The mortal remains is kept at Dr. Alexander Mar Thoma Valiya Metropolitan Smaraka Auditorium, SCS Campus, Thiruvalla, Kerala for viewing from 7 AM on 05.05.2021. The funeral rites are as follows:
I Service :- 7:30 AM on 05.05.2021
II Service :- 6:00 PM on 05.05.2021
III Service :- 8:00 AM on 06.05.2021
IV Service :- 3 PM on 06.05.2021
The mortal remains will be interred in the specially constructed tomb near to the St. Thomas Mar Thoma Church, Thiruvalla located in the SCS Campus after the fourth service. Heaven Rejoices in welcoming home our Beloved Chrysostom Thirumeni, celebrations with much joy and happiness. Well done Good and Faithful servant will be ringing in the air for sure. Praise God for his life and that we could have met and interacted with him many a time. From my childhood I carry precious memories, seeing him drinkng tea at a railways station, talking to everyone and sharing a laugh in the train, having memories of meeting him with my grandparents, parents and the last with my husband and son at his home along the pampa…the list can go on. Even at 100 he was clear in his interaction with our son who was 10yrs then, so remarkable and touching, feel so blessed that albeit our last meeting its precious one to hold. His simplicity, humility and love for all with the message of the gospel and who Jesus was to him is one which will remain etched in the minds of all who interacted with him. A true servant of the Lord, not just for the Mar Thoma church but one who made an impact to the wide world. The legacy he set for our Mar Thoma church is rich and we pray that it will be continued. He made me feel so special by visiting home when my father in law passed away and also came before I was leaving to Australia with my mother in law . He send me a beautiful letter of appreciation soon after I reached Melbourne. I will always hold fondest memories of Thirumeni very close to my heart. Our deepest condolences on the loss of our beloved Valiya Thirumeni.
We are so glad to have had a chance to meet Thirumeni in person and be blessed by his ministry . Thirumeni was a special person who will be so sorely missed. A great loss for humanity. He was visionary leader full of wisdom and Grace. May the good Lord help bless us to continue in the path Thirumeni have paved for us. May his soul Rest in peace.

On behalf of the Vicar and members of Trinity Mar Thoma Church Edmonton, the executive committee would like to express our heart felt condolence and pray that all of us can live out the life that Late Dr. Philipose Mar Chrysostom Mar Thoma Valiya Metropolitan was able to live. As a Church we remember all the encouragement we received from him when he was our Diocesan Bishop and during his tenure in 1989 we constituted a building committee to purchase a place or worship that we can call our own. In 1992, an unfortunate incident of fire destroyed the interior of our Church. played a crucial role keeping everybody focused in the rebuilding efforts and on Jul 4th, 1992 he re-consecrated our Church. We will ever be grateful for all the moral support we received from him.
May we all live up to the Gold Standard that he has set before us for loving and caring for others !

He shared the beacon of the Christian gospel to the rest of the world through his humanity, humility and humor, emphasising that Christ was not just meant for the Christians but born for all Mankind.

My tribute to him is a painting I made today in his memory. I have attached it to this message . This is how I remember him.My mother as a child grew up knowing him closely. My Dad would read his books on humour and wit and share the jokes with us . I have witnessed the joy and happiness he bought to people around him. Caste, creed ,gender, financial status and political positions seemed irrelevant to him
His unparalleled memory , presence of mind and quick wit would turn tense moments into splits and laughter. The Lord sent him to us to tell us ‘ Do not fear or be worried , be happy and joyful always’.

The life and service of our Valiya Thirumeni was unique in thoughts, insight, language, approach and all the ways of life. Thirumeni was a wonderful gift not only to the Mar Thoma Church but also to the entire world. Thirumeni tried to bring changes in the traditional way Christian leaders by giving love and care to the poor, needy and downtrodden. Thirumeni always remembered them and says something about them in all his teachings following the footsteps of Jesus Christ who taught the Priests, Scribes and leaders something new through His actions deviated from their traditions. Through this method of approach and teaching Jesus touched the inner heart and mind of people . Thirumeni followed the footsteps of Jesus and tried to love everyone sincerely and ultimately Thirumeni was loved by everyone. Now our beloved Thirumeni completed his mission on earth and returned to the heavenly Father to receive his reward which is kept for him.

It has been my privilege to know Thirumeni from my childhood days until this moment of my life. God allowed me to experience our Thirumeni appachens love and affection at various points of my life. My marriage was blessed by Thirumeni. My Grandfather had great privilege to work closely with Thirumeni appachen . Just remembering his great life and service for humanity. He was truly an incarnation of Jesus Christ himself. A great loss for entire humanity and end of an Era. My heartfelt condolences

104വയസ്സുവരെ ജീവിക്കാൻ ഉള്ള ദൈവകൽപ്പനക്ക് അപ്പുറം ഇനിയും അദ്ദേഹം ജീവിക്കണം എന്ന് നമ്മൾ ആശിക്കാൻ നമുക്കാവില്ല.
എന്നാലും ആത്മാർത്ഥമായ ഒരു നഷ്ടബോധത്തിന്റെ വിങ്ങലോടെ.. ആ മഹത് ജന്മത്തിന് ആദരാഞ്ജലികൾ അർപ്പിക്കുന്നു..!

With deep sadness, we mourn the passing away of our dear Rev. Dr. Philipose Mar Chrysostom Mar Thoma Valiya Metropolitan.
Thirumeni’s wisdom, wit, vision, and faith in God influenced and guided the Mar Thoma Church since 1944, when he was ordained as a Deacon.
Thirumeni will be remembered for copious accomplishments.
He influenced and clearly touched the hearts and minds of people. His care for the suffering transcended division of caste, creed, nationality, religion, and politics. Thirumeni cared deeply for others and used humor to lighten up his interactions.
Chrysostom Thirumeni played a critical role in the creation and rapid expansion of the Diocese of North America and Europe.
He engaged himself in activities that matter to the human condition. Thirumeni’s direct engagement in building homes for the needy in Mexico, building homes for the homeless in Kerala, and supporting the work among the transgender community reflect his strong drive for social justice and fairness.
We have fond memories of his many visits to our parish and his guidance since the creation of a Mar Thoma worshipping community in Houston.
We, Trinity Mar Thoma Church family, thank God for the life of Dr. Philipose Mar Chrysostom Mar Thoma Valiya Metropolitan. We stand together, with pain and hope, to express our condolences.

I was a school going girl when Thirumeni visited Chembur Mar Thoma Church to conduct my cousins wedding. Thirumeni was v friendly and approachable. I met Thirumeni for the very first time.
Thirumeni mingled with all the sections of society .
Thirumeni lived a glorious blessed Life. He enriched many lives with great values in many ways.
We will miss Thirumeni appachan. End of a golden era.

Although it was sadness I received the news, I praise God for the life and witness of dear Chrysostom Thirumeni. HG’ love and concern touched many of us personally in Malaysia. I recall my Youth Camp days, where HG’s regular Deanship in the 60s and 70s was looked forward with much anticipation. I treasure the subsequent years when I was able to work with HG while serving the Church at Zonal, Mandalam and Sabha Council positions. I had the opportunity of visiting HG twice at Maramon Bishop’s House and receiving two phone calls through a mutual friend visiting HG there before HG’s hospital-stay. On all these occasions he recalled HG’s travel in Malaysia especially being driven around by my late Dad. There are many cherished personal memories with HG. I will surely miss HG. HG has run his race well and has left us all a faith legacy that cannot be matched. Praise be to God.

Heartfelt Condolences. Valiya Thurumeni brought smiles & laughter on every face during Thurumeni’s sermons. Thurumeni used to stay in my home during visits to Chembur Parish due to limitation in the rented parsonage in early 70s. Thurumeni prayed for me & cured my watery eye problem during my childhood days. Every morning my eyes used to filled with water . Everybody seeing me especially my morning school mates would laugh at me saying you just woke up & came directly to school. Some considerate schoolmates would ask why I am crying . This watery eye problem used to last every day upto 10.30 am in the morning.Thurumeni suggested that I select the date & time & we will pray for each other. The next day after the selected day, I am completely cured. Miracle in my life & I praise God for the same & for Thirumeni. We pray for each other since then. Thurumeni & self used to correspond once in 6 months until Thurumeni became Metroplitan but prayers continued till now.🙏🙏🙏
